This article is about the full movie Haunted Mansion. The Walt Disney Company has a history of turning its innovative attractions into full-length motion pictures. The Pirates of the Caribbean film series, which consisted of five films and gave rise to a current pop culture hero in the form of Captain Jack Sparrow, is unquestionably the most well-known and successful example. Ever since, Disney has sought to turn its theme park rides into movies, as evidenced by The Country Bears (2002), Tomorrowland (2015), and Jungle Cruise, to name a few (2021). With Hawkeye (2021) directors Bert & Bertie slated to create a Big Thunder Mountain Railroad-based movie, the idea is still going strong.
The Haunted Mansion is the one attraction at Walt Disney World that should be easy to translate. The Haunted Mansion, starring Eddie Murphy, was a 2003 Disney attempt to cash in on the well-liked attraction. Its iconic images and surprisingly rich backstory should be the ideal choice for a feature film. You may anticipate that his version of the ride would be pretty funny, with a comic like Murphy playing the central part. Although the ride has always had a highly sarcastic sense of humor, the cinematic version missed the attraction’s spooky appeal. Too much emphasis was put on comedy, and well-known figures like the Hat Box Ghost and the Black Widow Bride were missing.
Former Disneyland employee and Dear White People (2014) director Justin Simien plans to create his movie adaptation of the popular attraction, bringing on board a respected team of creatives and an absolutely great cast. It is a very intriguing adventure-horror combination based on what was displayed during their attendance at this year’s D23 Expo. Continue reading below to learn more about what was discussed at D23 behind closed doors and everything else we currently know.

Is There a Trailer for Haunted Mansion?
At the Disney & Pixar Studio Showcase at D23, Justin Simien presented an extended teaser that introduced the cast and setting of this new Haunted Mansion. The film only shown to the panel and has yet to made available online, which is unfortunate for people who couldn’t make it to the showcase. Fortunately, Therese Lacson from Collider there and published a detailed account of the footage reveal, which you can read by clicking here.
In a nutshell, the trailer begins by introducing the main characters, Ben (LaKeith Stanfield), Kent (Owen Wilson), Gabbie (Rosario Dawson), and Harriet (Tiffany Haddish), as they explore the mysterious mansion and eventually discover a room that resembles Madame Leotta’s, also known as the sorceress head trapped inside a crystal ball. The remainder of the trailer features even more bizarre individuals, including an eccentric college professor, and displays creepy, ghostly visuals (Danny DeVito).
What is the Release Date?
On August 11th, 2023, scheduled to send sympathetic vibes to the ghosts of the Haunted Mansion.
What is the Plot of Haunted Mansion?

Although there are few specifics about the narrative and the trailer didn’t do much to clarify it, an official synopsis provided some further insight:
We already know that Gabbie will portrayed by Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka), that the tour guide will played by LaKeith Stanfield (Sorry to Bother You), that the priest will be played by Owen Wilson (Loki), and that the psychic will likely played by Tiffany Haddish (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) The historian is Harriet, and the psychic is Danny DeVito’s (Dumbo) nameless professor.
Regarding the ghosts making an appearance, we know that the Hat Box Ghost, a famous element of the ride recently brought back, strongly hinted at during the event to performed by Jared Leto (Morbius). We also know that the Bride, a figure with a fascinating background, will appear in the movie. The majority of the Haunted Mansion’s “pleasant haunts” are, well, joyful. They are generally not evil or nasty except the Bride, but they may occasionally give folks a good scare. It strongly implied that the woman, who used to go by Constance Hathaway, murdered her husband (or spouses) and now haunting the estate in search of her next victim. Both of these famous ghosts are great candidates for the primary adversary.
Who is Making Haunted Mansion?
First, Oscar-winning director of The Shape of Water (2017) and legendary master of horror and practical effects Guillermo Del Toro Justin Simien is a suitable successor. Still, like many of Del Toro’s projects, this one meant to for something other than the skilled writer/director. Simien has established himself as one of the most promising new voices in storytelling today after working on the highly acclaimed Dear White People Netflix series and the wildly popular Dear White People movie from 2014. Simien also expected to have a lengthy relationship with Disney, given his involvement in the next Lando series.
Del Toro still given credit for creating the screenplay for the movie even though he is no longer in charge of directing it. D. V. DeVincentis (High Fidelity) and Katie Dippold (The Heat) are co-writers. This is terrific news for fans of Del Toro’s filmmaking style since it probably means that many of his concepts will be incorporated into the finished product. In addition, Del Toro will participate as an executive producer.
Kris Bowers (King Richard), Jeffery Waldron (Little Fires Everywhere), Phillip J. Bartell (Bad Hair), Darren Gilford (TRON: Legacy), and Jeffery Kurland (costume designer) make up the remaining members of the ghostly cast (Collateral).
Who is Starring in Haunted Mansion?
Most of the prominent starring actors who will feature, including LaKeith Stanfield. Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish, and Jared Leto, have previously been mentioned. One of the numerous fresh casting announcements made at D23 was Leto. He is most likely playing the Hat Box Ghost once more. Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice), Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Hasan Minhaj (The Daily Show), and Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween Ends) make up the remaining cast members. Jamie Lee Curtis made a dramatic arrival at the Studio Showcase in her own “Doom Buggy.”
Winona Ryder may play the Bride, given that Curtis will reportedly play Madame Leotta. Still, we’ll have to wait and see when the gloomy, grin-sporting ghosts mingle next year.
A priest, a professor and a paranormal investigator try to help a woman and her family after they unwittingly move into a haunted mansion in New Orleans.
